Preschoolers Welcome Therapy Dogs!

Preschoolers in classroom 302 are learning firsthand about PETS, the current Tools of the Mind curriculum theme.  In the process, they also are discovering more about the role of  a veterinarian.

  • On March 23, preschoolers met Great Dane SCOOBY, a certified and registered therapy dog.  SCOOBY's owners, Bob and Lois Gorbsky, shared information about SCOOBY's eating, exercise, and training habits. Children enjoyed asking questions--especially about his very loud bark--and shaking SCOOBY's paw.
  • On March 27, the children met pugs MR. CHIP and FRANKIE, also therapy dogs, and their owner, Britt Levi, a student at the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania.  Children took turns using a stethoscope to listen to MR. CHIP's heart.  They also examined the anatomy of a dog using a special plastic model and reviewed picture books of different breeds of dogs. Scroll down to view  pictures.
