Executive Director, Mary Graham, honored with Community Service Award by the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation
On May 1st, Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation (PCDC) held their 60th Anniversary Gala at the National Constitution Center. As part of the celebrations, PCDC presented Community Service Awards to eight individuals that have made meaningful contributions to the Chinese community and Chinatown over the last six decades. Our very own Mary Graham was one of the award recipients!
It’s because of PCDC’s relentless advocacy for Chinatown that Children’s Village is able to thrive and continue to provide high quality childcare for the community. Over the years, PCDC and CV have been strong partners in fighting overdevelopment of the Chinatown community – voicing opposition together on proposed casinos and sports stadiums. “We have shared interests–a city that is welcoming for immigrants, a Chinatown that is safe for families, and housing that is affordable for workers–and PCDC makes all of those goals possible,” shared Ms. Graham.
Our organizations are linked - many of the students that age out of our after school program go on to attend PCDC’s Out-of-School Time (OST) afterschool program for high school students. In fact, the youth speaker at PCDC’s Gala was one of our alumni!
Children’s Village would not be the organization it is today without PCDC. It was an honor to be included in such a meaningful way in their 60th Anniversary celebrations. We look forward to celebrating our 50th Anniversary with them this fall at our own anniversary party!
